Most fuel efficient petrol car in India.
The Renault Kwid was launched today with prices starting at a competitive INR 2.56 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi, for the Std. variant. Deliveries of the Kwid will start next month, the company announced at the press conference.
The top-end variant of the Kwid, the RxT, costs INR 3.44 lakhs and offers features such as AC, power steering, a 7-inch touchscreen Media NAV system, front power windows and so on. Interestingly, for an extra INR 9,000, Renault will offer a driver airbag, though features like ABS, EBD and a passenger airbag are unavailable.
All variants of the Kwid are powered by a 799 cc three-cylinder petrol engine which develops 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque to deliver an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 25.17 km/l. At the moment, a 5-speed manual transmission is the only gearbox on offer, but Renault has confirmed an automated manual transmission (AMT), and a more powerful 1.0-liter engine as well. These are likely to be introduced next year.
With competition coming from the Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon, Renault says the maintenance costs of the Kwid are 19 percent lower than its nearest rival. Also, a 2 year/50,000 km warranty comes standard, as does a 2 year corrosion protection.
