Will be launched in India this fiscal year.
After putting several versions of its upcoming two launches on test, Mahindra's S101 and U301 finally look like they are in their final phase of development.
Pictures of the test mules, from cardekho.com, suggest that the models are on the last miles of testing, wearing low camouflage. Both launches will take place this fiscal year, it has been confirmed, with the next-generation Bolero (U301) set to be launched before the compact SUV (S101).
While the S101 will compete against the likes of the Ford EcoSport, and even the upcoming Renault Kwid, the U301 be targeted at the utilitarian segment. The compact SUV will get front bench seats and a dash-mounted gear lever, a la Datsun Go. The U301 is a more premium offering than the Bolero and is set to get a grille that is in line with M&M's new design language that saw its debut with the XUV 500 facelift.
A new petrol engine, developed in collaboration with Ssangyong, will debut in the S101 while the diesel options are set to be the same as the 3-cylinder 1.5-liter engine used in the Quanto. Both vehicles will come in AMT and manual options.
