Porsche has lifted the veil off the Panamera facelift at the Auto Shanghai 2013.
The German automaker has introduced a new first plug-in hybrid variant, the Panamera S E-Hybrid. In addition, two Executive versions with an extended wheelbase (+150mm) and an all new 3.0-liter biturbo V6 engine for the Panamera S and 4S models were introduced. Porsche also decided to ditch the manual gearbox for the PDK dual clutch and 8-speed automatic transmissions.
The V6 petrol motor generates 316hp and is paired to an electric motor producing 94hp. The motor draws its energy from a 9.4 kWh lithium-ion battery which is five times the capacity of the previous battery.
The hybrid accelerates from 0-100kmph in 5.5 seconds and hits a top speed of 270 kmph. It is estimated to go as fast as 135 kmph in all-electric mode. The battery charges within two and a half hours and has an average fuel consumption of 3.1 liters/100 km.
The headlights are bestowed with new LED tail light clusters. Another new addition to the Panamera range is the optional LED headlights. Other cosmetic tweaks include larger air vents on the bumper, different turning signals, modified tailgate structure and a relocated license plate enclosure.
The Executive models offer a 150-mm (5.9-inches) longer wheelbase which constitutes to more space at the back. Besides being spacious, this package comes with added features and better ride comfort and to be available for the Turbo and 4S models.
For the Panamera S and Panamera 4S models, the 4.8-liter V8 engine is dislodged for new 3.0-liter V6 biturbo unit and it is also used in the Panamera 4S Executive. The power output will be 414hp and 520 Nm of torque which is slightly more than the current unit.
The 7-speed PDK gearbox will be found in most Panameras, with the 8-speed Tiptronic S being offered in the Panamera Diesel and Panamera S E-Hybrid.
The market launch is scheduled for July 2013 in Europe and in Germany prices start at €81,849 for the Panamera Diesel and €83,277 for the Panamera. In 2014, Porsche will introduce a new diesel engine with 300 hp that will replace the current unit. Also arriving in 2014 are Panamera Turbo s and Panamera Turbo S Executive.
