We have been tracking the Porsche Macan – a baby Cayenne from Porsche – for the last year.
The Porsche Macan, Indonesian for Tiger, will be a Cayenne-inspired crossover to take on the BMW X3, Mercedes ML Class and the Land Rover Freelander.
Autobild.de presents a very interesting rendering of the Porsche Macan. The crossover has the front fascia of the new Cayenne and a coupe-like sloping roofline.
The Macan is a part of Porsche’ Strategy Plan till 2018 which will see newer, path-breaking products from the Stuttgart based automaker. Porsche is very serious about the success of the Macan and has invested 500 million Euros in the Leipzig factory where it plans to employ 1,000 workers to manufacture this new model next year.
The Macan will share the same underpinnings as the new Audi Q5. However, Dr. Wolfgang Hatz, Head of R&D at Porsche, assured the world that the Macan is going to be a completely different SUV from the Q5 in terms of dynamics. New engines, transmissions and suspensions have been developed specifically for the Macan. We have comprehensively covered each and every aspect of the Macan over here.
A concept version of the Porsche Macan will see the light of day at next year’s Geneva Motor Show. A production version will follow suit in September at the Paris Motor Show. Soon after its debut, the Porsche Macan will hit the stands for an expected starting price of 45,000 Euros (24.60 lakhs). Porsche plan to sell 45,000 to 65,000 units of Macan every year.
