The Aprilia Storm 125 was launched at an event held in Pune. Speaking on the introduction of the new Storm 125, Diego Graffi, Managing Director and CEO, Piaggio India said:
We are delighted to launch the long-awaited Aprilia Storm in India. Known for its undisputed racing heritage, Aprilia uses cutting-edge technology to design and create premium differentiated products for the youth of the country that reflect the true characters of brand Aprilia. Storm has a dynamic exterior theme with vibrant colours, specially designed wide terrain tyres, 125 cc engine and customisation through accessories that makes it unique.
Buyers can select from two paint options – yellow and red – both featuring a matte finish and bold graphics. Piaggio had showcased both the paint options at the 2018 Auto Expo. As reported in the past, the Storm 125 is based on the SR 125, and thus, it features an apron-mounted headlight while the front blinkers occupy the space near the handlebar. The fibre panel on the handlebar features a black finish on both the colour options.
Aprilia will offer accessories for the Storm 125 to further customise the scooter. It may be noted that the vehicle was showcased with a tall windscreen at the 2018 Auto Expo. Mechanical specifications list a 124.49 cc air-cooled motor that delivers 9.52 bhp of power at 7,250 rpm and a peak torque of 9.9 Nm at 6,250 rpm. The scooter is only available with drum brakes for now, but a disc brake-equipped model is likely to launch in the future. Do note that the vehicle displayed at the 2018 Auto Expo was seen with a front disc brake. For now, stopping power comes from 150 mm and 140 mm drum brakes at the front and rear, respectively. The safety net includes combi-braking system (CBS) as standard.
The Storm 125 rides on 12-inch wheels that are wrapped in Vee Rubber sourced tyres. The knobby pattern on the tyres lends a rugged look to the scooter. A single-sided shock absorber at the back and telescopic forks at the front perform suspension duties. The scooter has a fuel carrying capacity of 6.5 litres. The Storm 125 comes equipped with a single-piece pillion grab rail as standard, which is a feature that was missing on the vehicle displayed at the 2018 Auto Expo.
