What better way to celebrate Valentine day than to welcome the finest Offroader from the Mercedes family. Mercedes Benz India will launch the iconic G Wagon in India on Monday 14th February
G-Wagen (short for Geländewagen which means a cross-country vehicle) is not your typical Mercedes. To put it in simple words, it is like the My Hyde version of the GL Class - a lot of raw brawn. An interesting fact about the SUV is that it is the longest produced Mercedes in Daimler's history – almost 30 years!
Over the years, the technology that drives the SUV may have drastically changed but the design still remains very much Boxy. And yes, the Tata Sumo and the Mahindra Armada was, in a way, inspired by the G wagon. Nonetheless, the styling does add a unique character to the SUV and we love it for the same.
Make no mistake, this is no city slickster. Original conceived to serve the German Army; it became so popular that Mercedes brought a civilian version in 1979. But that doesn’t mean this mean machine was neutered. It still serves 63 armies around the world, including the German Armed Forces, Canadian Army, NATO and US Marine Corps.
Under the hood, you will find a 5.0 liter V8 engine that puts out 382 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 391 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm. The engine is mated to a 7-speed auto transmission. It has a body-on-frame construction with three fully locking differentials.
So if you want to call yourself the owner of car that has driven Arnold Schwarzenegger, 50 Cent and even the Pope, come back on 14th Feb to know the price :)
