New Suzuki Swift ready to invade Malaysia

Remember how New Suzuki Swift Malaysiawe constantly complained that Maruti Suzuki took a whole year to introduce the 2013 Suzuki Swift in India after its launch?

Well, we feel slightly better now because Malaysia still has to make do with the older model. Fortunately, it will change soon!

The third generation Suzuki Swift is ready to invade the streets of Malaysia. PauTan, a popular automotive blog in Malaysia, reports the sightings of a truck full of new Suzuki Swifts heading to dealer’s stockyard.

It was definitely a wait worthwhile for our Malaysian friends because they are getting a 1.4L K-Series which spits out 94 hp at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The Malaysian Swift will run rings around its Indian cousin because we get the for-economy 1.2L K Series engine that generates 87PS@6,000rpm, 114Nm@4,000rpm.

More good news for our Malaysian friends as they will also get two variants in an automatic avatar. We think that it is the same 4-speed gearbox that does its duty in the Swift Dzire and now the Ritz as well. Features include –

  • Dual airbags
  • ABS and EBD
  • Automatic climate control
  • 16-inch alloys
  • Keyless go/push-button start system

But there is a price to pay and a quite big one at that!

Our Malaysian friends will have to shell out anywhere between RM77,888 (14.07 lakhs INR) and RM83,318 (15.05 lakhs INR) to drive one home. That's obnoxious, isn't it?

But features such as a more powerful engine, an automatic gearbox and start-stop button are sorely missed in India.

So Maruti Suzuki – Are you sure you are treating us with the right products?
