The Scorpio was available to book on an e-commerce website, a first for a car in India.
The new Mahindra Scorpio has received over 12,000 bookings, says a new report on Autocar Professional. October 2014, which was the first full month of sales for the Scorpio saw over 6,000 units being billed, the publication was told by Dr. Pawan Goenka, ED, Mahindra & Mahindra. According to Dr. Goenka, October would be the best-ever month for the SUV in terms of sales.
Dealerships started bookings for the new Scorpio on September 15, and the first two days were exclusive to existing Scorpio owners wishing to upgrade or buy the new Scorpio. In what can be described a first, e-commerce store, SnapDeal, also listed the new Scorpio on its website where customers could book the car through online means of payment.
The new Scorpio is powered by the same 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine which produces 120 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. The base variant gets the 2.5-liter m2DiCr engine producing 75 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Apart from offering a refreshed exterior and interior, the Scorpio comes with several feature additions like LED daytime running lights, projector headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, automatic climate control and a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation.
