The upcoming Hyundai hatchback that was officially announced in August 2017 at the launch of the new Hyundai Verna will make its debut at the Auto Expo in February 2018 reports Autocar India. The hatch is expected to revive the Hyundai Santro nameplate in India.
According to the report, the Hyundai AH2 (codename) will be one of the new product unveilings the company has planned for the event scheduled from 7 to 11 February 2018. However, as Mr Y K Koo, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited, announced in August, the market launch of the new Hyundai hatchback aka Hyundai Santro will take place in the second half of 2018.
In terms of pricing, the hatchback will slot in between the Eon and the Grand i10. It will rival the likes of the Tata Tiago and Maruti Celerio. The Hyundai AH2 will mark the debut of the company's AMT gearboxes that have been developed in-house.
While the hatchback may bear the Santro name on the bootlid, it will be bigger than the now-defunct model and will more equipment on offer.
Hyundai has commenced real-world testing of the model as evident from spy shots that have been doing the rounds since November. In October, Hyundai's plant in Chennai produced the first unit of the engine that will power the hatchback.
