Honda Cars India showcased the ninth generation Accord at the Auto Expo recently. Shown in its hybrid avatar, details as to the launch of the luxury sedan were not shared.
Indian Autos Blog learns that the Japanese carmaker is indeed serious about launching the new Accord in India. However, a company spokeswoman said that a time frame is undecided as Honda has already planned two launches in the country next that are high up on the to-do list, those of the Mobilio MPV and Jazz hatchback.
Globally, as of now, the ninth-generation Accord is only available with a petrol engine, and this should be the case when the car is launched in India. The hybrid drivetrain could be offered as a top-end variant (similar to what Toyota does with the Camry Hybrid). The company confirmed that the Hybrid Accord shown at the Auto Expo was used to gauge customer interest.
The Accord Hybrid at the Expo was powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired to an AC synchronous permanent magnet motor. With both systems combined, the Honda Accord Hybrid produces 196 hp. It is paired to an E-CVT gearbox.
