MG Motor India is off to an excellent start as it has garnered 20,000 bookings for the Hector within just 45 days of its launch. Not expecting such a strong demand initially, the company has been compelled to stop taking any more bookings temporarily, as the SUV is sold-out for this whole calendar year already.
MG Motor India is currently under the process of ramping up the production capacity of its Halol plant to 3,000 units/month which will be attained by October 2019. It sells the Hector in four different trims presently: Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. Smart and Sharp are experiencing the highest demand, with over 50% of bookings specified with a petrol engine.
Commenting on the latest development, Rajeev Chaba, President and MD, MG Motor India, said: “Hector has received an overwhelming response and we are unable to cater to such high initial demand. We are therefore closing bookings temporarily as this will help ensure timely and orderly deliveries for our customers who have shown tremendous confidence in MG. We are also working with our component suppliers to ramp up production in a gradual manner without any compromise on quality.”
The MG Hector's long list of exclusive features along with very aggressive introductory prices starting from just INR 12.18 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) has contributed largely to its great initial success. The fuel economy rating of the Tata Harrier rival is 14.16 km/l (petrol-MT)/15.81 km/l (petrol-electric-MT)/13.96 km/l (petrol-AT)/17.41 km/l (diesel-MT).
