Mercedes Benz could have as many as five compact cars in India in the next five years to ensure that they surpass the other two Germans that are expected to extend their lead over Mercedes convincingly in 2012. Mercedes' bigger goal is being the head of the pack by 2020 globally.
The first of the compact cars is what we've already discussed - the B-Class is a "Sports Tourer" arriving here before Diwali and Mercedes' second compact model could be the production version of the Concept Style Coupe that expected to begin its journey next year in other countries. Mercedes is keen to offer three body styles in India - hatch, sedan and SUV - between 20-25 lakh rupees.
