Mercedes-Benz Passion Blog, one of the select few media entities to attend a preview of the Mercedes AMG GT at the automaker's facility in Sindelfingen near Stuttgart, carries what is claimed to be the official sketches of the sports car which will succeed the gull-winged SLS AMG.
Going by the sketch, the AMG GT is characterized by a very long bonnet and a stubby boot, just like its predecessor. Whereas the SLS AMG features a flat roof with thick B-pillars, the AMG GT gets a swooping roofline with steeply raked A- and B-pillars. The headlamps are reported to use the latest version of the ILS LED system rather than the MultiBeam LED that debuted in the new CLS.
The curvacious rear fascia derives its taillight design from the new S Class Coupe. And there is a subtle hint of the Porsche 911 in the AMG GT's rear fascia appearance.
Mercedes has been teasing its Porsche 911 rival and has already revealed the interior. The dashboard follows the German brand's latest interior design language with multiple AC vents on the centre console, a chunky three spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel and a stand-alone tablet sized COMAND multimedia infotainment screen.
MB Passion Blog also reports that, according to the officials, the sports car would weigh less than 1.6 tonne. A new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine mated to a dual clutch transmission will be propelling the AMG GT. The motor has 510 PS (502.8 bhp) and 650 Nm of torque on tap and is capable of hurtling the car from 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. Its top whack stands at 312 km/h.
The Mercedes AMG GT is reported to be unveiled on September 9 ahead of its Paris debut. Deliveries in Europe are expected to commence later this year.
