Mercedes-Benz launched the Mercedes A Class in India on May 30, about ten days ago. Today we are told that the smallest Mercedes on sale in India has already racked up a respectable 400 plus bookings.
Mercedes go ahead to say that the A Class has the highest popularity of any three pointed star in its Indian chapter that began in the mid 1990's. Even when the car was launched in Europe last year, it quickly garnered over 90,000 bookings within a short period of time (something like a couple of months).
In India, Mercedes made the right move by launching the car in both petrol and diesel engine options. While the petrol was launched in a higher spec 'Sport' variant, the diesel was launched in a lower 'Style' variant. Hence the petrol was costlier than the diesel.
The A Class was launched with a price of 21.93 lakhs for the diesel and 22.73 lakhs for the petrol (ex-showroom). Both variants feature a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. To read the launch report of the A Class the review of the A Class A180 Sport, click here.
Mr. Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said -
Already a global sensation, the success of the A-Class in India reiterates Mercedes-Benz’s stand that young India has now come of age and Indians who lead a global lifestyle today, value trendy design, dynamic driving and quality when it comes to their personal mobility preferences.
