Maruti Suzuki is on a launch spree even when the overall market is facing a slowdown. Recently, the company came up with the XL6 (Ertiga-based premium 6-seater MPV), and is now about to launch the S-Presso on 30 September 2019. Then, the company will launch a premium variant of the Maruti Wagon R featuring bigger wheels borrowed from Ignis, LED high-mounted stop lamp and LED tail lamps.

The premium variant of the Maruti Wagon R is expected to be sold through NEXA.

The front section of the premium variant of the Maruti Wagon R hasn't been photographed yet, but we expect it sport a redesigned front bumper, grille and projector headlamps for a more upmarket look. As it is expected to be sold through NEXA, the paint options will include the Nexa Blue shade as well. Thanks to the new and bigger, 15-inch (alloy) wheels, the ground clearance could be slightly higher compared to the regular Wagon R. The model on sale today does not offer alloys and only features 14-inches steel wheels at best.

The interior of the premium variant of the Maruti Wagon R could be differentiated with unique upholstery and trim and some exclusive equipment, but the overall design is expected to be the same as that of the standard variant.

The Maruti Wagon R is based on the company's fifth-gen Heartect platform and sources its power from the 1.0- and 1.2L petrol engine options. The Wagon R 1.0L uses the BS-IV K10B three-cylinder engine which is known to deliver 50 kW (67.98 PS) of max power at 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm. The bigger, Wagon R 1.2L is offered with the BS-VI K12M four-cylinder engine which pushes out 61 kW (82.94 PS) of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 4,200 rpm. The premium variant should pack the bigger engine. This engine should be offered with 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual transmission choices.
