As we reported time and again, Maruti Suzuki will indeed launch the SX4 diesel in India next month. The crossover variant of the SX4 in Europe is presented with a 1.9-liter Fiat sourced diesel engine, but what India gets is the tried and tested 1.3-liter Multi-jet diesel with a Variable Geometry Turbocharger that's serving on the Fiat Linea and the Swift Dzire Indigo Manza.
The VGT will result in fine power delivery and acceleration will be uniform. The 1.3-liter engine is compact and smaller than all its rivals. It is expected to be more fuel efficient and stick to Maruti's "kitna deti hai?" mentality.

Autocar India has reported that the SX4 diesel will be considerably lighter than its counterparts and Maruti is planning a shock pricing strategy to revive interest in the SX4 brand.
The SX4 is among the few vehicles in the Maruti portfolio that isn't performing to its expectations. By providing a diesel engine, it hopes to do what Hyundai did with the revamped Verna, if not better.
