Cumulative sales of the Maruti Swift, which was launched in 2005 and brought along a breath of fresh air to the then ageing and product portfolio of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, have crossed the 2 million sales milestone. The company reported the sales of the first 1 million units in November 2013, which means the next million units were sold in exactly five years. The popularity of the B1-segment small car has been such that the sales of the current generation model crossed 1 lakh units in just 145 days of its launch.

Speaking on the stellar sales performance of the Maruti Swift, RS Kalsi, senior executive director (marketing & sales) at Maruti Suzuki India, said-

Brand Swift has consistently featured among the top five bestselling cars in India for more than a decade. I would like to express my gratitude to all our customers. The success is strongly associated with the Swift’s dynamic performance, advanced design, and technology, reliability, durability and best-in-class fuel-efficiency that characterise Maruti Suzuki’s DNA.

It is said that at the time of the first generation Swift's launch, the company had set a monthly sales target of 5,000 units, which was owing to the low demand for premium hatchbacks then. That said, the Swift has been a dominating force right from the word go. Between May 2018 and October 2018, it has posted an average monthly sales of 19,322 units. The Hyundai Grand i10, which has been at a distant second spot, sold an average of 11,098 units/month in the same time.
