Maruti Baleno cumulative sales cross 4 lakh units

The Maruti Baleno has crossed the four lakh unit cumulative sales milestone. India was the B-segment hatchback’s launch market in October 2015.

The Maruti Baleno is MSIL's "premium hatchback" positioned above the Maruti Swift and sold through the NEXA retail chain. It currently has a waiting period of up to 4 weeks.

The Maruti Baleno had an antecedent in the Suzuki iK-2 concept, which was built around the theme of “Harmonised Force”. It was the first Maruti Suzuki based on the Heartect platform that now underpins the Maruti Ignis, Maruti Dzire, and Maruti Swift as well. It is positioned above the Maruti Swift and sold through the premium NEXA retail outlet.

The Maruti Baleno is built in with a host of premium features like HID projector headlamps with LED DRL, UV cut glass, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED rear combination lamps, passive keyless entry, SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and Apple CarPlay, coloured MID and leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The Maruti Baleno is available with the K12M 1.2-litre VVT petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission and the D13A 1.3-litre DDiS 190 diesel engine coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. At the top of the ladder is the sporty Maruti Baleno RS, which uses the K10C 1.0-litre BoosterJet petrol engine with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The K12M engine produces 62 kW (84 PS) and 115 Nm of torque. The D13A engine develops 55.2 kW (75 PS) and 190 Nm of torque. The K10C is the most powerful engine in the entire Maruti Suzuki line-up. Imported from Japan, this turbocharged three-cylinder mill delivers 75 kW (102 PS) and 150 Nm of torque.

To continue maintaining a high consumer interest level, the Maruti Baleno could receive a retouch to its bumpers and lights in Q1 2019.

The Maruti Baleno is available in eleven configurations, with prices ranging from INR 5,35,872 to INR 8,49,889 (ex-showroom Delhi). The Maruti Baleno RS retails at INR 8,44,803 (ex-showroom Delhi).
