A new report says that Maruti Suzuki will be launching a new premium MPV in India on 21 August 2019. This model has been rumoured as the 6-seat Ertiga and the Ertiga Cross so far. The name of this model, however, could be different.
The new Maruti MPV is said to be sold exclusively through Maruti's premium sales network, Nexa. In all likeliness, this will be the rumoured 6-seat Ertiga with captain seats in the middle-row.
From the earlier sightings, it can be figured out that the new MPV will have a modern design and a more imposing stance compared to the Ertiga. It will feature a more prominent and aggressive nose. Its headlights will be much sharper-looking and integrate LED daytime running lamps. It will also feature a different set of alloys for a more premium and sportier look. On the inside, expect it to have a more upmarket dash layout, more spacious and comfortable cabin, along with a host of entertainment and comfort features.
It will be equipped with the BS-IV version of the K15 SMART HYBRID petrol engine. This unit delivers 77 kW (104.6 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm at 4,400 rpm in its BS-IV form. This engine will be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Moreover, the company could also offer the BS-IV 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel engine with a 6-speed manual transmission, but it will be discontinued by March 2020.
