The variant lineup of the 1.3 DDiS model remains intact.
Maruti Suzuki has discontinued the lower Delta and Zeta grades of the 1.6 DDiS variant, thus leaving the 1.6L turbodiesel engine as an option only in the top-end Alpha grade.
Maruti's official comment on the discontinuation of the variants:
It is business prudence to keep the number of variants at an optimum level in line with customer's requirements. We started a new segment called premium crossover with S Cross. Volume-wise, S-Cross continues to do an average of 2,000-2,100 units monthly.
The reason for discontinuing the two variants is attributed to lower-than-expected demand. Overall demand had picked up when Maruti cut prices by over INR 2 Lakhs, yet it does not sell anywhere near as many volumes as its other NEXA sibling - the Maruti Baleno - or arch rival Hyundai Creta.
Reports suggest that Maruti is prepping to a facelift for the S-Cross later this year, which is already on sale in Europe. Along with the current diesel option, it is rumoured to offer with a petrol engine and automatic transmission.
