Confirmed to sell from NEXA outlets.
Maruti Suzuki today confirmed that it will introduce the Maruti Ignis in India during the festival season. The car, as seen in the concept unveiled at the Auto Expo, will be adapted for the Indian customer taste. The company called the Ignis a "smart urban vehicle" which will target maturing compact car buyers. The company also confirmed that it would be sold via NEXA outlets.
The body design of the Maruti Ignis was previewed by the iM-4 concept that was displayed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The sub-4m SUV has dimensions of 3,700 mm, 1,660 mm and 1,595 mm in length, width and height respectively; it also has a wheelbase of 2,438 mm. Suzuki states that the Ignis is a compact car that can “straddle the boundary between daily life and leisure.” It goes on to mention that it has a “high eye point and plenty of road clearance” which allows for “confident driving on snowy roads and rough tracks.”
In the Japanese market where the car launched last month, the Suzuki Ignis is powered by a 1.2-liter DualJet petrol engine that features the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology and is mated to a CVT gearbox with power sent to the front wheels. For India, a diesel will also be included, probably having the familiar 1.3-liter DDiS unit. The possibility of four-wheel drive (Suzuki ALLGRIP) option can not be discounted as well.
