The Celerio diesel is powered by a 793 cc two-cylinder engine capable of 47 bhp at 3,500 rpm and 125 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. The Swift diesel on the other hand features a 1.3-liter four-cylinder Fiat-developed MultiJet diesel capable of 75 PS and 190 Nm of torque. However, the Celerio diesel makes a higher 0.16 Nm/cc of displacement compared to the Swift's 0.15 Nm/cc.
When it launches, the Celerio diesel will also be India's most fuel efficient diesel passenger car at 27.62 km/l, while the Swift returns 25.2 km/l. More so, the Celerio's twin-cylinder aluminium diesel engine will be the lightest in class at 89 kg, whereas the 1.3-liter Fiat MultiJet weighs 128 kg.
Maruti will launch the Celerio diesel in four variants - LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi (O). The top-end variant will benefit from dual airbags, ABS, alloy wheels, a Bluetooth-enabled music system, electrically-adjustable wing mirrors, front and rear power windows and steering-mounted audio controls.
