Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the Maruti Celerio diesel debuting Suzuki’s first diesel engine, a two-cylinder unit displacing 793 cc, will be launched on June 3. As said in a previous story, the Maruti Celerio diesel will be India’s most fuel efficient car with an ARAI-rated mileage of 27.62 km/l.
The built-for-economy engine produces 47 bhp at 3,500 rpm and 125 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. While making a comparatively lower torque, it has a higher torque/cc than the the Fiat 1.3-liter engine on the Swift. A hydraulic clutch and a new 5-speed manual gearbox with low mechanical losses are part of the drivetrain.
The Celerio diesel will come in four variants – LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi (O). Safety features ABS, EBD and dual front airbags are only available in the top-end model, and as would a driver-seat height adjuster.
Expect the Celerio diesel to cost about INR 80,000 over the corresponding petrol variant.
