Maruti Suzuki has announced the introduction of the Maruti Alto 800 VXi variant. The VXi variant forms the flagship variant of the Alto 800 lineup. Until now, the Alto was available in three trim lines namely, Standard, LX and LXi, not to forget the airbag equipped LXi and the CNG versions of the respective trim lines.
So what do you get in the VXi? For a start, you get an integrated stereo with four speakers and central locking as standard.
On the outside you get an exterior rear view mirror for the left side of the car (it was available only for the driver's side in the LXi), door side moulding, full wheel covers and a rear spoiler.
Under the hood, you get the same 796cc three-cylinder engine which produces a maximum power of 48PS and maximum torque of 69Nm. The 5-speed cable type manual transmission is retained. The Alto 800 promises an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 22.74km/l and is available in six exterior color shades.
The Alto 800 VXi would set you back by INR 335,547 for a non-metallic color while the metallic color comes in at INR 339,435.
For the past few months, Maruti has been witnessing a sharp decrease in the Alto 800's sales, and what's worse is that the more expensive and premium Swift Dzire outsold the entry-level Maruti last month. The VXi variant may give Maruti the much needed sales boost as customers in India appreciate value more than a low price.
