Distribution and Maintenance Automobile Algeria (DMMA), distributor of Mahindra vehicles in Algeria, launched two new products at the Auto Salon of Algiers this month, the Mahindra XUV500 and the Mahindra Quanto.
The Quanto for the Algerian market differs considerably from the Indian specification. It is a five-seater with 'Yoga' split rear seat. Mechanically it is a stronger car employing a 2.2L turbo-diesel engine that puts out 120 hp and 280 Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Launched in a single variant 'C8' and priced at 19,990,00 Algerian Dinar (INR 15.28 lakh), standard equipment includes ABS, dual airbags, power steering, air conditioning, radio/CD/MP3 system with steering-mounted controls, alloy wheels and electric mirrors.
The XUV500 is in the Indian market specification. It is a seven-seater family SUV, powered by a 2.2L 140 hp/330 Nm turbo diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. A variant which is not available to India is the optional 6-speed automatic transmission (believed to be the same as the Scorpio's).
The XUV500 is launched in W6, W8 and W8 AWD 4x4 variants, with ESP, ABS, 6 airbags (2 for version W6), trip computer, air conditioning, Radio CD MP3 + USB and electric mirrors standard.
The W6 variant is priced at 26,990,00 dinar (INR 20.64 lakh), the W8 at 28,990,00 dinar (INR 22.17 lakh), and the W8 AT at 29,990,00 dinar (INR 22.93 lakh).
