Last year, reports said that Mahindra will launch a Mahindra-badged version of the G4 SsangYong Rexton in India. According to a report from Autocar India, the Mahindra Rexton will debut at Auto Expo 2018 that opens Feb 7.
The Mahindra Rexton will have some changes from the G4 SsangYong Rexton at the front. Mahindra will likely change the SUV’s front grille to make it look like one of its original models, and maybe even change the interior trim to better suit the local market’s tastes. Apart from such minor cosmetic changes, the South Korean SUV is expected to remain as is.
The fourth-gen SsangYong Rexton (codename: SsangYong Y400) measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,825 mm in height. It has a 2,865 mm wheelbase. Under its hood, is the 2.2-litre e-XDi220 LET diesel engine, which is coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic transmission. This engine produces 187 PS and 40.7 kg.m (400 Nm) of torque in the manual transmission model and 187 PS and 42.8 kg.m (420 Nm) of torque in the automatic transmission model. A part-time 4WD system is standard.
On the outside, the latest SsangYong Rexton features HID projector headlights with integrated daytime running lights, LED front fog & cornering lights, 20-inch alloy wheels, ORVMs with integrated turn signals and puddle lamps, LED rear combination lamps, Shark fin antenna, rear spoiler and rear fog lights. Interior highlights include 7-inch driver information display, 9.2-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control and 8-way/6-way power adjustable and ventilated driver’s/front passenger seat.
360-degree camera, nine airbags, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, Blind Spot Detection, Rear-cross Traffic Alert and Lane Departure Warning are the key safety and driver assistance features of the mid-size SUV. Most of them are unlikely to make it to the Mahindra-badged version, though.
