The Mahindra U321 will debut a new 1.6-litre mFalcon diesel engine co-developed by SsangYong and Mahindra. Citing undisclosed sources, Team-BHP forum member RavenAvi has revealed the new engine’s maximum power and maximum torque figures.
The Mahindra U321’s 1.6-litre engine will produce 125 hp and 305 Nm of torque. Mahindra will position the Mahindra U321 somewhere between the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova, making it a Renault Lodgy competitor. Its diesel engine’s figures are much higher than its rival Renault Lodgy’s most powerful 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine's (110 PS/245 Nm). Mahindra could offer this engine with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Mahindra has said that it will offer a petrol engine in all its new models arriving 2018 onwards. The company is developing a variety of new petrol engines displacing 1.2-, 1.5- and 2.0-litres and multiple variants - MPFI, GDI, turbo and non-turbo. The Mahindra U321 could get a 1.5-litre petrol engine either at launch or a couple of months later.
