The current Mahindra Thar has been on-sale since 2010 and it will be discontinued by October this year because it's not tough enough to pass through the crash tests under BNVSAP. However, Mahindra has planned a proper send-off to the current model with a Signature Edition that will shortly go on sale.
The Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will be limited to only 700 units and will be sold in two exclusive paint shades – Napoli Black and Aqua Marine. These paint schemes will be similar to ones seen on the Mahindra Marazzo. On the styling front, the Thar Signature edition will feature 15-inch five-spoke alloy wheels which have been seen on the previous-gen Scorpio and the Marksman black decals on the bonnet lid and silver finish on the front bumper. It will also wear a special ‘Signature Edition’ badge with Anand Mahindra's signature on it as well.
The interior of the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will be wider and more spacious than the regular model. Highlights in this aspect will include unique leatherette seat covers and front-facing rear seats as well. The regular model didn't come with ABS, which became mandatory feature last month. The special edition model will be equipped with this safety feature, though, obviously. The Mahindra Thar was sold with a 2.5-litre M2DICR diesel engine (63 BHP/195 Nm) and a 2.5-litre CRDe diesel engine (105 BHP/247 Nm). The Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will be available with only the latter.

Mahindra has already commenced work on second-generation Thar, which is most likely to make its public debut at the Auto Expo 2020. It will share the segment with the upcoming all-new Force Gurkha, which is expected to debut at the same event.
