The Mahindra Thar 700, earlier referred at the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition, was launched earlier this month at INR 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Now, the limited-run model has started arriving at dealerships.
The Mahindra Thar 700, as its name suggests, is limited to just 700 units. It costs almost INR 50,000 more than the regular model (CRDe 4WD). This limited-run Thar comes with Anand Mahindra's signature on a 'Signature Badge' added to its right-hand side front fender. Apart from that, it can be differentiated from the regular Thar with its 15-inch five-spoke alloy wheels (also seen on the previous-gen Scorpio and the Marksman), new decals over its bonnet and sides and D-sat silver colour finish on the front bumper.
The Mahindra Thar 700 is available in the Napoli Black colour and an exclusive Aquamarine colour. Inside, there are leatherette covers with Thar logo on the backrests (driver and co-driver seat). In terms of safety features, it comes with ABS which has become mandatory since 1 April 2019. But since the Thar 700 doesn't comply with the AIS 145 safety norms, and so, Mahindra would want to sell all the 700 units before 1 July 2019.
Under the hood, the Mahindra Thar 700 is powered by the 2.5L CRDe diesel engine that delivers a maximum power of 79 kW (107.41 PS) and 247 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. A Borgwarner transfer case is standard.
