Mahindra launched the commemorative edition of the Thar last month, named Thar 700 (earlier referred as Thar Signature Edition), at INR 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). To capture the essence of the Thar's legacy and to give it a proper send-off, the company has launched a video which showcases the Thar 700 rolling off the assembly line.
For the uninitiated, Mahindra will manufacture only 700 units of the Thar 700. The limited-edition model features Anand Mahindra's signature on a 'Signature Badge' on its right-hand side front fender, special decals over its bonnet and sides and D-sat silver colour finish on the front bumper, and the old Scorpio's inspired 15-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. Colour choices include the familiar Napoli Black shade and an exclusive Aquamarine paint. While on the inside, it featured leatherette covers with Thar logo on the backrests (driver and co-driver seat).
On the safety front, the Mahindra Thar 700 features ABS, which is a mandatory feature since 1 April 2019. It isn't compliant to AIS-145 safety norms which from 1st of this month. In terms of mechanicals, the Mahindra Thar 700 is powered by the 2.5L CRDe diesel engine that makes a maximum power of 79 kW (107.41 PS) and 247 Nm of peak torque. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. And offers a Borgwarner transfer case as standard.

Now, Mahindra is working on the next-gen Thar, which has been spotted on several occasions till date and is expected to make its first official public debut at Auto Expo 2020.
