Mahindra have once again launched the Mahindra Scorpio Special Edition. As our readers may recall, this edition was launched in the 2010 edition of the Auto Expo first, followed subsequently in September last year. This is the third time Mahindra is launching this edition, confirmed by Mahindra's Facebook and Twitter channels, and by dealerships Indian Autos Blog spoke to.
The exteriors of the Scorpio Special Edition are characterized by racing decals on the front bumper and sides of the SUV. Added to this, the alloy wheels get a chrome finish. Inside, the Scorpio Special Edition gets "European" leather seats in a brown color, 9-inch roof-mounted DVD player, leather-wrapped gear knob and steering wheel and a wood-finished center console. As always, the special edition is limited to 500 units.
At its last launch, the Special Edition Scorpio was priced at INR 11.88 lakhs (ex-Showroom, New Delhi) and was made available only in the top-end manual trim. The engine, a 2.2-liter four-cylinder outputting 120 bhp and 290 Nm of torque, remains unchanged as is the 5-speed manual gearbox.
Meanwhile, Mahindra is working on a refreshed Scorpio which should be launched by the end of this year. The upcoming Scorpio facelift would be the most significant cosmetic makeover for the SUV since its launch in 2002. In spite of its age, the Scorpio manages brisk sales selling an average of 4,840 units/month (Jan-March 2014 period) and reclaimed the top selling SUV title from the Renault Duster in the last fiscal.
