Will debut a new petrol engine from the company.
Seen here are more spyshots of the Mahindra S101 (codename), ahead of its launch, which is reported to take place in the third week of January 2016.
To recap, the S101 is likely to be called the Mahindra XUV100, and will be positioned in the compact segment rivaling the likes of the Maruti Wagon R and Hyundai i10. It is reported to have a starting price of INR 4 lakhs, ex-Showroom, and will be made available with petrol and diesel engines.
Underpinning the S101 is Mahindra's all-new monocoque, front-wheel drive platform, which is expected to form the basis of a family of compact cars in the future. When launched, the S101 (XUV100) would be Mahindra's most affordable offering in the passenger vehicles segment. It'll also debut an all-new petrol engine for the brand, which is confirmed to be a 1.2-liter unit, likely a three-cylinder inline arrangement. The diesel variant of the S101 could borrow the mHawk 80 1.5-liter three-cylinder motor from the TUV300.
Spyshots have shown the S101 to get a manual and an automated manual transmission. In both cases, the gear lever is mounted on the dashboard, and the space between the driver and front passenger is occupied by a seat, similar to the Datsun Go.

When launched, the S101, similar to the TUV300, could offer airbags as an option even on base variants, while top-end models would get ABS, EBD and dual front airbags as part of the standard kit.
