Autocar reports that select Mahindra dealerships have commenced the bookings for the Marazzo for a sum of Rs 10,000. Note that M&M has not announced the start of bookings, though the company has confirmed that the MPV will launch on September 3. The first batch of vehicles should soon reach dealers pan-India.
The MPV will become the first Mahindra model to be jointly designed by Pininfarina and company's Kandivali-based design centre in Mumbai. The designers of the MPV have taken inspiration from a shark. Furthermore, it is the first product to be developed in cooperation between Mahindra North American Technical Centre (MNATC) in Troy, USA, and Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai, India.
Under the hood of the Mahindra Marazzo will be company's new 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The new motor will produce a maximum power of 121 hp and a peak torque of 300 Nm. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The new-age powertrain is likely to make it to several future models from the UV manufacturer.
The body structure of the Mahindra Marazzo will comply with the future safety norms. Safety features like dual front airbags, ABS, seatbelt reminder for the front seats, and rear parking sensors will be available as standard equipment across all the trims. The equipment list for the higher variants will include diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED DRLs, projector headlamps, cruise control, touchscreen infotainment system, surround AC, and reverse camera.
The Mahindra Marazzo is the first of the three all-new models that will launch in the current financial year. It will be followed by the Ssangyong Tivoli-based S201 sub-4-metre compact SUV and the Ssangyong G4 Rexton mid-size SUV.
Prices of this MPV will lie between the Maruti Ertiga (starting at INR 6.34 lakh) and the Toyota Innova Crysta (starting at INR 14.34 lakh).
