Touted as a premium pickup to address a new business segment.
The Mahindra Imperio has been launched in India at a starting price of INR 6.25 lakhs (ex-showroom, Thane). The model is offered in single-cab and double-cab versions, in Base and VX variants, with BS-III and BS-IV engines. At this price, the Bolero flat-bed prospects can upgrade to the Imperio at a difference of INR 23,000.

Positioned as a premium pickup truck above the Mahindra Bolero Pik-Up, the model competes with the Isuzu D-Max and the Tata Xenon. It is the 8th product of the 10 promised by Mahindra for this financial year.
Based on the Ingenio platform, the Imperio is largely a facelifted version of the Mahindra Genio. It is characterized by a revamped front fascia that has a new, ‘toothed-grille’, new bumper, sleeker headlamps and circular foglamps. The side and rear profiles of the pickup are not very different from the Genio's.
The interior of the Imperio is barely renovated, with the steering wheel, instrument cluster and the center console carried over from the Genio. The notable addition is the switch for the Power and Eco drive modes that are derived from the Mahindra Maxximo Plus.
The powertrain too is the same as the predecessor. The 2.5-litre four-cylinder mDI CRDe diesel engine continues to produce 75 hp of maximum power at 3,200 rpm and 220 Nm of peak torque at 1,400-2200 rpm. It is mated to the same 5-speed manual transmission. The engine gets the company's Fuel Smart technology (linked to the 'Pwr' and 'Eco' drive modes), which claims a 7 percent hike in mileage. The fuel economy is said to be 13.55 km/l, and the payload capacity is 1240 kg.
With the Imperio, Mahindra plans to widen and strengthen its commercial vehicle lineup. The company is now the leader in the segment with a market share of 53 percent. Mahindra is also the leader in the pickup segment since the last 10 years, with the current market share being 70 percent. A total of 1.3 lakh vehicles in this segment were sold last year.
