The Jeep Renegade was introduced in early 2014, and it will undergo a full model change in 2022. Moving to its second generation early next decade, it will retain the current platform, as per a report from Brazilian site Autos Segredos.
The Jeep Renegade rides on the Small Wide platform, which debuted in the Fiat 500L in 2013 and forms the basis for the Fiat 500X. This platform will undergo upgrades so that models underpinned by it adhere to more stringent safety norms and provision for the latest powertrain technologies in the future.
The Brazilian publication says that its source has seen the first design studies of the next-gen Jeep Renegade, and that person says that the future model with even more attractive lines will surprise those who find the current model good-looking. The development of the future model is in the hands of Brazilian, American, Italian and Asian engineers.
In Europe, the new 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 120 PS and 190 Nm of torque and the new 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 150 PS/180 PS and 270 Nm of torque which were just introduced with the mid-cycle refresh in the first generation model should continue through the next generation. Expect no diesel engine options, as Jeep looks at switching to electrified powertrains.
FCA will offer the next-gen Jeep Renegade with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and a pure electric powertrain. Even the current model is set to gain a plug-in hybrid powertrain, in early 2020. Back to the second generation model, the company will offer Level 3 autonomous driving technology and connected car technology as well as future-proofing measures.

FCA was testing the first generation Jeep Renegade in India, but there is no plan to launch this vehicle. A sub-4 metre SUV and a three-row mid-size SUV are its priorities, with 2022 set as the deadline for their launch.
