Indian Autos Blog has learnt through sources that Isuzu Motors India will launch an extended cab version of the D-Max pickup truck at the upcoming Auto Expo to be held next month.
Currently, Isuzu only sells the single-cab version of the D-Max in India. The pickup is imported into the country via the CBU route (Completely Built up Unit) from Isuzu's Thailand plant. The D-Max extended cab variant will be based on the single-cab version, though this is not to be confused with the double-cab variant: unlike the double-cab, the extended cab will not get an additional set of doors.
Power for the extended-cab D-Max will be sourced from the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine which produces 136 PS of power at 3,600 rpm and 294 Nm of torque from 1,800-3,200 rpm in the D-Max single cab. The gearbox, like the single-cab D-Max, will be the same 5-speed manual unit.
On the single-cab D-Max, Isuzu offers features such as power steering, power windows, central locking, engine immobilizer and dual airbags, and we expect to see these features carried on to the new variant as well.
The single-cab D-Max is priced at INR 8.1 lakhs ex-Showroom, Hyderabad, and the extended-cab will be pricier. Isuzu currently has dealerships in two locations in Tamil Nadu and one in Andhra Pradesh. The company will inaugurate two more in Andhra Pradesh, one in Kerala and one in Tamil Nadu in the days to come.
