Replaces the PQ35 architecture for the lighter MQB platform.
Volkswagen will finally reveal the second generation 2016 VW Tiguan ahead of its public debut at the 2015 IAA in Frankfurt. Spyshots of test mules indicate that it will feature an updated styling that looks closer to an SUV than the outgoing model.
French publication, L'Automobile, has posted a couple of renders of the 2016 VW Tiguan, borrowing design cues the VW Cross Coupe GTE. Volkswagen will also offer a long-wheelbase variant of the Tiguan (VW Tiguan XL) with 7 seats, as well as a sleek 5-door coupe-crossover (VW Tiguan CC).
Based on the MQB platform underpinning the VW Golf mk7 and VW Passat (B8), the 2016 VW Tiguan will pack the company's latest range of fuel efficient TSI and TDI engines compatible with the new platform, which could include a frugal 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder engine and a 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine. Higher trim levels will offer VW's 4MOTION electronic all-wheel drive system as standard equipment.
The VW Tiguan will also be introduced in India for the first time, and will be the only SUV offering in 2016. For competitive pricing, VW could localize certain components for the India-spec VW Tiguan.
