The Renegade, Jeep's smallest SUV, is all set to receive a mid-life facelift. As per a report from Autocar India, the 2019 Jeep Compass will be unveiled in September 2018. The exterior and interior of the Renegade leaked out last year in December.
The report cites a Jeep spokesman who has confirmed that the MY2019 Renegade will be unveiled in September this year followed by its first public showcase at a Motor Show in the first half of 2019. This facelift will be the Jeep Renegade's first since its debut in March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show.
As revealed by leaked images, the front end of the Jeep Renegades gets a slimmer grille flanked by circular headlamps with LED elements. The bumper has been updated as well. The centre console, specifically the portion below the touchscreen display gets a revised layout for the aircon controls, parking assist, etc.
Autocar's report adds that the 2019 Jeep Renegade will get a 2.0 L 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 48V mild hybrid system. Future Jeep models are likely to gain mild-hybrid tech as well. The updated form of the Jeep Renegade will be launched in India as well. Our market is expected to employ a 140 hp 2.0 L diesel engine and a 1.4 L turbo petrol engine with AWD optional claims the report. However, earlier this year, information published online claimed that FCA's 1.6 L Multijet diesel will power the Renegade in India.
The Jeep Renegade will be the company's second locally manufactured product in the Indian market. The Compass is proving to be very popular among car buyers and the introduction of a cheaper SUV will only add to Jeep's growth in the Indian market.
Rivals of the Jeep Compass will be the Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur, Maruti S-Cross, and the likes. Expect pricing to fall in the INR 10-15 lakhs (ex-showroom) bracket. It was reported back in July 2017 that the Jeep Renegade will be launched in India in the second half of 2019.
