Hyundai Kona Electric price slashed by INR 1.59 lakh post GST reduction

The Hyundai Kona Electric was launched in India not long back at an introductory price of INR 25.30 lakh*. Now, on the account of the drop in GST on EVs from 12% to 5%, its price has been slashed by INR 1.59 lakh to INR 23.91 lakh*. The revised prices come into effect from 1 August 2019.

Hyundai has also confirmed that the reduced price will also be applicable for already booked units. Speaking of which, the company has received 152 bookings of the Kona Electric in 20 days. The electric SUV retails from 15 dealerships across 11 cities. Accordingly, the new price of the Hyundai Kona Electric will be INR 23,71,858, from the previous price of INR 25,30,000 (all prices are ex-showroom, India).

Furthermore, there may be another boost around the corner for future Kona Electric customers as the government also previously proposed to offer deductions of up to INR 1.5 lakh in taxable income on the interest payable on loan taken for EV.

One of the reasons for the hype around the Hyundai Kona Electric is that it is officially the first long-range electric SUV in India. Hyundai claims an outstanding mileage of 452 km (ARAI-certified) and a 0-100 km/l acceleration time of 9.7 seconds.

The Hyundai Kona Electric comes with a permanent magnet synchronous motor which churns out 136 PS and 395 Nm of torque. This motor gets its juice from a 39.2 kWh battery pack. A standard AC charger fully charges its 39.2 kWh battery pack in 6 hours 10 minutes, while a 50 kW DC fast charger takes just 57 minutes to charge it to 80%. The driver can select from three driving modes - Eco, Comfort and Sport.

On the inside, the Hyundai Kona Electric is equipped with features like a 7.0-inch driver information display, automatic climate control, head-up display, wireless charging and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay enabled. The safety is taken care of by 6 airbags, hill-start assist, ABS with EBD, ESC, rear parking sensors and a rear camera, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system and ISOFIX child seat mounts, all of which are offered as standard.
