The Chennai plant will also export the Creta, Hyundai confirmed today.
Hyundai took the wraps off its new compact SUV, the Creta, at its Indian manufacturing facility today. The Creta, what Hyundai says is for global markets, will be exported out of India as well, though the Korean car maker is yet to outline the markets.
For the Indian market, the Creta launches on July 21, 2015, with a front wheel drive layout on all variants. When asked about the inclusion of an AWD variant, product planners for Hyundai Motor India Limited said that it was indeed "under consideration", however, did not put a timeframe to its launch. "The focus right now is on launching the manual and automatic variants of the Creta in India", a product planner said.
The Creta will come with 1.6-liter Dual VTVT petrol and CRDi VGT diesel engines, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. On the 1.6-liter diesel variant, the Creta will also offer a 6-speed automatic transmission. There will also be a base 1.4-liter U2 CRDi variant, Hyundai confirmed.
The Creta is based on a modified version of the Elantra's platform. Hyundai is yet to reveal the dimensional specifications of the compact SUV, though its measurements are expected to mirror that of the China-only Hyundai ix25.
