The Honda Activa is the country’s largest-selling automatic scooter.
With scooter sales on the rise, Honda is sitting comfortably on top of the ladder with a more than 50 percent market share. The recent demonetisation scheme may have impacted numbers in November and December, but that is a temporary problem.
To emerge stronger, Honda is getting ready to launch a new scooter with a BSIV compliant engine and Auto Headlamp On (AHO) feature, reports Car and Bike.
While BSIV emission norms will be mandatory for all manufacturers from April 1, 2017, AHO is also be made compulsory. The latter helps in making the two-wheeler more visible to road users during dawn and dusk.
On the new scooter, Mr Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd said:
It will be launched very soon and what it is, is a surprise, so wait for the launch. We can't say anything more at this stage.
Honda has two readily usable powertrains in the scooter segment, the 109.2 cc mill which does duty in the Activa, Dio and Aviator while the other is a 124.9 cc mill found in the Honda Activa 125.
Expect the new scooter to be priced slightly higher than the Honda Activa 3G which costs INR 50,290 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
