To target the new Triumph Bonneville.
Honda has planned to showcase a variety of motorcycles at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January, of which two models will be the concepts that have been unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. Based on this fact, media reports suggest that the production version of the Honda Concept CB would be unveiled as the next generation Honda CB1100 at the Auto Salon. This model would compete with retro models such as the new Triumph Bonneville.
Compared to the current Honda CB1100 EX, the Honda Concept CB is visually different by way of a highly sculpted fuel tank, new aluminium-esque side panels, more chrome on the headlamp and the instrument cluster, new air-box covers with chrome appliqués, a new seat, redesigned castings for the foot-peg hangers, and chrome tube railings under the pillion seat in place of aluminium castings, while, the chassis and powertrain are retained. The engine of the existing Honda CB1100 is already Euro4-compliant.

Though the company called the Concept CB a "customised concept model", its features are considered to appear more production-spec than one-off or unique.
