Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India Limited (HMSI) launched the Cliq on June 20, 2017. Although the scooter is yet to release pan India, it is available in Rajasthan where HMSI's plant manufacturing the scooter is located.
IAB spoke to several dealers and an owner who reached IAB from Rajasthan, informing us that the Honda Cliq is available in 1-2 days from time of booking. A dealer revealed that enquiries are picking up with each passing day. None of the dealers we spoke to say that the Cliq is taking customers away from the Activa. They say that the new concept has the interest of every visitor who steps into the showroom.
Sales of the Cliq will shoot up once it is available across the country later this year. Our estimate is that HMSI could be selling around 50 units of the Cliq everyday in the state.
According to Honda, the Cliq is aimed at non-metros where the Activa has limited penetration. Like the Navi, it is indigenously developed by HMSI's research and development team for rural and semi-urban conditions.
The Cliq gets very basic features like an analog instrument console which includes a speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge and indicators for turn signal and high beam light. The under seat storage has a volume of 14 L with sufficient space for a half-face helmet. It also gets USB charging and the scooter can be specced with a handy luggage rack.
The Honda Cliq is on sale for INR 41,784 (ex-showroom Jaipur). The version with body graphics costs INR 42,277 (ex-showroom Jaipur). It comes with a 109.19 cc air cooled single cylinder mill that puts out 8 bhp @ 7,000 rpm and 8.94 Nm @ 5,500 rpm.
