Honda has launched the City Sport Hybrid i-DCD in Malaysia. The new variant of the sedan has a claimed fuel efficiency of 25.64 km/l overall. The Honda City Hybrid is the second hybrid model introduced in Malaysia this year after Jazz Hybrid.
The Honda City Hybrid is powered by a 1.5 L DOHC i-VTEC engine along with an integrated high power motor. The combined power output stands at 137 PS with a peak torque of 170 Nm. Interestingly, this means the power output is almost the same as that of a 1.8 L engine. The car uses a Lithium-ion battery to power the electric motor. Drive is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch transmission.
The hybrid variant of the City sits between the mid-level E trim and top-end V trim. It gets a Multi Information Display that reads out Energy Flow, Sport Meter, Fuel Economy, Drive Info, Customization and ECO Display. Other features on offer include a 6.8-inch display audio unit, touch panel air-conditioning, daytime running lights, LED tail lights, and 16” dual tone alloy wheels. In safety features, it gets 4 airbags and ABS with EBD along with Vehicle Stability Assist. However, it misses on LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, leather upholstery and curtain airbags, all of which are present on the V trim.
The Honda City Hybrid is priced at RM 89,200 (INR 13.40 Lakhs) on-road without insurance. Production of the Hybrid variant is underway at Melaka, and it will be available at dealerships mid-August onwards.
With GST playing spoilt sport with plans of car makers for hybrid vehicles, expect the City to continue with just petrol and diesel options in India.
