Premieres in Indonesia on August 20.
In one of the surest signs that the upcoming Honda crossover SUV, the Honda BR-V, will make it to India, Hiroyuki Shimizu - Honda India's senior vice-president and director for marketing & sales - in an interview to the ET Auto, said "The small sporty utility vehicle market has a major attraction and we are keen to have a suitable product for Indian customers."
The Honda BR-V was earlier confirmed to make its world premiere at the upcoming GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIAAS 2015) on August 20. It is important to note that the Honda Mobilio also took a similar route to India, debuting in Indonesia before being launched in India.
With a three-row seating layout, the BR-V will not be too dissimilar to the MPV in the Indian market. It will, however, thanks to its aggressive crossover-style design, compete against the likes of the Renault Duster/Nissan Terrano, Mahindra Scorpio and the Ford EcoSport. With a 7-seater three-row layout, the BR-V already stands to gain amongst new rivals.
Other details that have been confirmed are that it will be powered by 1.5-liter petrol engine mated to manual and automatic transmissions.
When it makes its way to the Indian shores, expect it to share both petrol (1.5L i-VTEC) and diesel engines (1.5L i-DTEC) with the Honda Mobilio.
