Production to first start in Indonesia from early-2016.
A report on AutocarPro states that Honda Cars India will begin manufacturing the BR-V crossover at its Tapukara, Rajasthan, plant from April 2016. Initially, around 36,000 units of the BR-V will be made each year, the report states.
Sources told the publication that Honda will shift to a higher displacement diesel engine with the BR-V. At present, Honda Cars India uses a 1.5-liter i-DTEC EarthDreams diesel engine on the Amaze, City, Mobilio and Jazz, but the crossover is expected with a 1.6-liter i-DTEC engine.
In global markets, Honda employs a 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel engine on products such as the Civic and CR-V, but it remains unclear if the same engine is planned for the BR-V, the report states.
The BR-V, which was revealed in August at the GIIMS and IIMS motorshows, will first enter production in Indonesia from early-2016. The local subsidiary, HPM (Honda Prospect Motor), will begin manufacturing the crossover at its plant in Karawang, West Java, with a 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol engine.
