It is been said over and over again that the Amaze is the first diesel Honda in India. Even the TV commercial emphasizes on this fact.
Honda claims that the 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engine, which is a derivative of the 1.6 litre Earth Dreams diesel engine, is specifically developed for the Indian market. The 100 PS four cylinder motor is the most powerful in its segment and at the same time it is the most fuel efficient too.
With an ARAI certified mileage of 25.8 kmpl it is not only the most fuel efficient car in its class, but also in the country! Now that is something close to a wizardry!
The 87 bhp 1.2 litre i-VTEC petrol motor which is found in the Brio is also available with both the manual and automatic 5-speed units while the diesel engine is offered only with the 5-speed manual gearbox.
To be pitted directly against the current segment leader the Maruti Swift Dezire, the Honda Amaze has to its credit a tidy look and comparatively spacious rear seats. The bookings are already open and the prices would be announced on April 11 when the car is officially launched.
The specs are definitely speaking in favor of the compact sedan. Will the pricing do the same?
