The Honda Amaze is a runaway success to say the least. Honda India couldn't have wished for a better turnaround specialist.

Until the arrival of the Amaze in April, Honda Cars India's sales chart propelled by a petrol only portfolio, wasn't that impressive as it used to be. The Amaze has come to the rescue and as we expected, it is singlehandedly outselling the rest of the Honda cars combined!

The biggest advantage of the sub four metre compact sedan is the fact that it is the first diesel Honda in India. The 1.5 litre i-DTEC Earth Dreams diesel engine with commendable performance figures of 100PS and 200 Nm, and a record setting mileage of 25.8 kmpl (ARAI certified) proved to be a no brainer choice.

Last month, Honda managed to sell 8,488 cars in India out of which 4,852 units (around 57% of the total sales) were of the Amaze. The overall sales figure is about 20% more than that of the previous month.

It is to be noted that Honda Cars India is suffering from a production constraint which is limiting the sales to some extent. Waiting period for popular variants of the Amaze has already crossed four months in some cities. The huge demand for the Amaze is expected to choke the production capacity allotted for other cars like the Brio and the City.

The car maker is setting up an assembly line at its Tapukara plant, Rajasthan to double its production capacity by 2014. Currently the Greater Noida facility has an annual capacity of 1,20,000 units.

It's imperative for Honda to increase the production capacity at the earliest to ensure that the demand for the Amaze doesn't restrict the availability of other models.
