Achieves No. 1 position for the third time in the last 11 months.
The Honda Activa, which spearheaded the rise of gearless scooters in India, has once again claimed the top spot in the Indian two wheeler segment.
The Activa clocked 1,91,883 units in July 2014 to claim the pole position, achieving 64% YoY growth in the process. The Activa is now available in two 110 cc variants and a range topping 125 cc variant. All scooters are benefited by the Honda Eco Technology (HET).
Commenting on the Activa's sales performance, Mr. Y.S. Guleria, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), said:
In the last few years scooters have evolved and become more technologically advanced, fuel efficient and stylish. The high growth of Scooters in India has primarily been led by Honda and we are confident of maintaining this leadership in future.
In the last fiscal, the scooters occupied almost 25% of the Indian two wheeler market and the tally has already reached 27% so far this fiscal. The sales of scooters grew by 23% in the April - June 2014 financial quarter.
In order to capitalize on the demand for its range of gearless scooters, the Japanese giant is reportedly looking to build the world's largest scooter making facility in Gujarat. The establishment would be HMSI's fourth plant, after Greater Noida (UP), Tapukara (Rajasthan) and Narasapura (Karnataka).
