Unveiled in 2011, the Hero Impulse was the first motorcycle from Hero Motocorp after its split with Honda. With its dirt bike looks and the established 'Hero' logo, hopes were high and the bike was expected to achieve its sales figures set by the company.
As it turned out though, the Impulse was a sales disaster and Hero had to discontinue production last year. That does not mean Hero has lost its pulse for the bike, and the company is in fact planning to re-launch it soon.
Pawan Munjal, Hero's CEO and Managing Director, told Telegraph India that he was working on bringing the bike back. Mr. Munjal also confirmed that the re-launch would take place soon and that this time, the Impulse would be offered with a bigger engine in addition to the existing engine.
While Mr. Munjal did not put a specific timeframe for the launch, he said that Hero would introduce a segment of niche bikes at the Auto Expo in February 2014. Reports also suggest that Hero's American distributor, Erik Buell Racing (EBR), will assist in improving the Impulse as there is a strong market for such bikes in Latin America.
The current Impulse is powered by a 149.2cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 13.2 PS and 13.4 Nm of torque and comes mated to a 5-speed transmission.
